Anthony Germain is an award-winning former journalist and foreign correspondent who retired after 32 years with CBC. He became a fixture on radio, TV and digital news in Newfoundland and Labrador for more than a decade. Anthony rose to national prominence from his time in Ottawa covering federal politics in the 90s and early 2000s as a Parliamentary reporter. He became host of The House: The Week in National Politics, a prestigious program that focuses on national politics and policies. Some of the major stories he worked on included going to the war in Kosovo as Canada took part in NATO’s bombing campaign as well as the 9-11 attacks on the US and their aftermath. But, with an understanding of the value of ‘local news’, the bulk of Anthony’s career has been as the host of The St. John’s Morning Show, The 6 PM provincial TV news show Here & Now, and finally as host of the provincial afternoon radio show On The Go. Anthony has spoken to thousands of Newfoundlanders and Labradorians and has traveled extensively around the island.

Anthony is also a passionate educator. As his career in journalism wound down he started a new one.He has taught journalism at the College of the North Atlantic in St. John’s, as well as political science at Memorial University. He currently teaches high school English to Innu students at the Mushuau Innu Natuashish School in Labrador.

Anthony and Doris have a home in Salvage on the Eastport Peninsula where they love hiking, sea kayaking, fishing, and, most importantly, tormenting each other at Scrabble. They have four children: Ainsley, Jonathon, Abbie, and Alexander.

With a deep understanding of Newfoundland, Parliament, and issues prominent locally and across the globe, Anthony is ready to be a voice for Terra Nova—The Peninsulas in Ottawa.
